Fresh revolt if no People’s Constitution: Gajurel
SINDHULIMADI, FEB 13 - UCPN (Maoist) will take to another revolt if the people’s constitution is not promulgated, according to its Secretary CP Gajurel. Speaking at a programme organised to mark the 15th anniversary of the Maoist People’s War in Sindhulimadi on Saturday, he said the only way to avert the revolt was coming up with a “People’s Constitution”.
“Other political parties should open up avenues for promulgating the people's constitution,” he said.
While noting that the Maoists stand for the completion of statute drafting on time, the Maoist leader said it is not necessary to panic if the deadline for constitution drafting is extended by six months.
“If the new statute cannot take shape on the stipulated time frame, alternatives can be sought,” he said, without elaborating on the alternatives.
Gajurel also claimed that conspiracies are rife to impose the presidential rule by thwarting the statute drafting.
He recalled the ten-year long armed movement and said, “People's War has only changed its form and the war is still on track.”
According to him, his party has taken up the agenda of national sovereignty as Indian intervention has crossed its limit. He went on to accuse the Indian establishment of hatching conspiracies to divide parties, and topple government in Nepal.
Furthermore, he opined that the promulgation of constitution and the army integration parts should be accomplished simultaneously on the same day.
