Six houses gutted by fire; one suspected arsonist held

RAUTAHAT, FEB 12 - Six houses were gutted by a devastating fire that broke out in the wee hours of Friday morning at Pacharukhi VDC in Rautahat district.  

The inferno started at around 2 a.m. and burnt houses of Shyamlal Raya Yadav, Sita Ram Mahato, Nagendra Mahato, Dharichyad Raya Yadav, Jadolal Mahato and Dayal Thakur, of Gangapipara area, to ashes, police office said.

Police have suspected that the fire was set intentionally by some arsonists while the owners were out to attend a neighbour’s marriage ceremony.

There was no human casualty as all the family members were outside, Police Sub-Inspector Rajkumar Shah said.

A team of Armed Police Force and Nepal Police doused the fire.

The victims have complained of not being able to salvage their utilities from the fire. Property worth 0.4 million was destroyed by the fire including a motorcycle of Dharichyad Yadav. 

Meanwhile, police have detained one Anath Raya Yadav in suspicion of his involvement in the incident and started necessary investigations.
