BHAKTAPUR, FEB 12 - In a bid to eradicate TB from Bhaktapur, the Nepal Tuberculosis Relief Society is launching a campaign in 16 Village Development Committees (VDCs) of the district with VDC secretaries at the forefront.

The society will launch an awareness campaign against TB, identify the patients and motivate them to undergo DOTS treatment, according to Mahendra Lal Kayastha, the society president.

It will create a network through the VDCs to prevent the disease, said Shrestha, adding that the VDC secretaries will launch the campaign in association with local political leaders. The Bhaktapur District Development Committee had recently organised a workshop for the VDC secretaries on policy formulation against tuberculosis at the local level. At the workshop, Local Development Officer Prabha Pande said awareness at the grassroots plays a key role in eradication of tuberculosis. District Education Officer Neera Shakya said people will be urged to work together against TB during all-party meetings and teachers' meetings.

Sabita Hada, the society's programme coordinator, said the campaign will be launched simultaneously in all VDCs a month later.
