SAG: Nepal bags eighth gold in marathon

Rajendra Bhandari bags gold medal in marathon at 11th South Asian Games (SAG) being played in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

KATHMANDU, FEB 09 - Nepal bagged one more gold medal on Tuesday, the last day of the 11th South Asian Games (SAG) being held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, leaving Nepal at the 5th position of  the SAG medal tally Marathon runner  Rajendra Bhandari claimed gold medal today, stretching Nepal's gold tally to eight.

Yesterday, Nepal’s Angbabu Lama had claimed gold in Wushu, while Taekwondo ace Deepak Bista won a record four consecurtive SAG taekwondo gold medal in Dhaka to become the rfirst athlete in the gegion to achieve the mark. He had claimed his first gold at the 8th SAG held in Kathmandu.

Likewise, Ayusha Shakya had made it fifth gold for Nepal, claiming gold in Taekwondo.

Meanwhile, Bindo Shakya and Ganga Adhikari claimed gold medals for Nepal in Karate. Adhikari claimed gold in women under 61kg category.

However, Taekwondo player Manita Shahi was forced to be content with silver medal after she lost in the finals.

Nepal had broken the shackles on Sunday winning two gold medals. Binita Maharjan had become the first Nepali player to bag gold medal at the 11th SAG. She claimed gold in Wushu.

Likewise, Sunil Lama had bagged second gold for Nepal. He defeated Indian player in the final of Kumute under 55kg, Karate.
