NAGPUR, FEB 09 - Dale Steyn picked up ten wickets to help South Africa crush India by an innings and six runs in the first Test here in Nagpur on Tuesday.

Kallis and Steyn put paid to Indian hopes of stretching the Test to the final day after the duo got rid of Zaheer Khan and Wriddhiman Saha.

Wayne Parnell trapped up Harbhajan Singh in front of the stumps after the feisty Indian tail-ender had struck some lusty blows around the park.

India lost Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni in the second session to bury any hopes the hosts might have harboured.

After snapping up Sachin Tendulkar for 100, Paul Harris saw off Indian skipper MS Dhoni at the stroke of tea. Tendulkar scored his 46th hundred, third in succession, to defy the Proteas for a while but was done in by Harris.

Dhoni had laboured for 112 balls for his 25 but became Harris' third victim at the stroke of tea. Debutant Wriddhiman Saha and Harbhajan Singh are at the crease now, in an attempt to delay the inevitable.

Sachin Tendulkar battled hard against South Africa despite India losing Vijay and Badrinath in the morning session of the fourth day.

Tendulkar cracked his 55th Test fifty to lead India's fightback against the Proteas in Nagpur. Indian skipper MS Dhoni is with him at the crease and the pair of them will need to bat for the rest of the day at least to ensure a miraculous escape.

Paul Harris snapped up Murali Vijay. He looked good and steady with Tendulkar this morning but a full-blooded sweep did him in.

Wayne Parnell removed Badrinath, who played for the swing but ended up edging it to Boucher behind the stumps.

Virender Sehwag on Monday reminded his team about the sensational turnaround in the Kolkata Test against Australia after India had been asked to follow on. The men who inspired that drama, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid are missing this time. Tendulkar has an inexperienced Murali Vijay for company.

There are two debutants in the team and MS Dhoni struggled in the first innings. Talk about a comeback!

A fiery spell from South Africa paceman Dale Steyn sent India hurtling towards a heavy defeat on the third day of the first Test in Nagpur.

Steyn claimed wickets on either side of a dazzling century from Virender Sehwag (109), who shared a 136-run fourth-wicket stand with debutant Subramaniam Badrinath (56). The fast bowler finished with seven for 51 as India were bowled out for a measly 233 in the first innings.

With a sizeable lead of 325, the visitors enforced the follow-on and tightened the screw by removing both openers cheaply, leaving India with a mountain to climb.

At stumps, the home side had stumbled to 66 for two, still needing 259 to make South Africa bat again.
