NEPSE slides further

FEB 09 - The Nepal Stock Exchange witnessed a decline on Monday too losing 8.11 points. The NEPSE index settled at 489.23 points when trading closed.

All the sub-indices fell on Monday. The banking sector lost the most among the indices shedding 12.96 points followed by development banks which went down by 5.13 points.

The share market witnessed a total turnover of Rs. 23.816 million with 51,418 shares being traded. Shares of 54 companies changed hands on Monday.

Among the 18 commercial banks present on the trading floor, Everest Bank was the biggest gainer adding 19 points. Standard Chartered Bank shed 151 points. Similarly, among the 15 development banks whose shares were traded on NEPSE on Monday, Malika Bikas Bank witnessed the highest increase of 339 points while Pashupati Development Bank dropped 23 points.

Among the 11 finance companies listed on NEPSE, Merchant Finance Company was the highest gainer with an increase of 8 points in its share price. Narayani National Finance Company lost 21 points.  The top five winners on the first day of trading on NEPSE were Malika Bikas Bank which witnessed a 236 percent rise in its stock price, followed by Madhyamanchal Gramin Bikas Bank, Bank of Kathmandu and Sahayogi Bikas Bank.

Standard Chartered Bank topped the chart in terms of turnover with Rs. 10.159 million.
