Bike used in Shah's murder recovered; police say motive not clear yet

KATHMANDU, FEB 09 - The motorbike used to carry out the murder of media entrepreneur Jamim Shah on Sunday has been recovered from Futung VDC, on the outskirts of Kathmandu, on Tuesday morning.

Locals informed the police about a bike that was left unattended in the bushes in Futung VDC-1.

“The motorcycle was lying unattended at a slope of Sanglekhola in the northern side of Futung,” said Balaju Police Office DSP Dibesh Lohani. “The criminals could have fled after leaving the bike there.”

Two masked men in black outfit on a Yamaha Crux motorcycle opened indiscriminate fire at Shah's Pajero jeep (Ba 1 Cha 2151), killing Shah and injuring his dirver in broad daylight in front of the French Embassy in Lazimpat, Kathmandu on Sunday.

Bike is owned by a co-op

Earlier based on the eyewitnesses’ statements, the police had said the bike’s registration number was Ba 15 Pa 8733. However, after the recovery of the vehicle today, its registration number has been established as Ba 17 Pa 8733.

Police sent the bike to the Metropolitan Police Circle, Balaju first, and then to the Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka in the afternoon.

Organising a press conference at Hanumandhoka at 4:30, Superintendent of Police Ganesh K.C. said that the bike is owned by Miteri Saving and Cooperatives in Mahalaxmisthan, Lalitpur. According to him, there was no doubt that the same bike was used by the assailants while attacking Shah and fleeing the crime scene.

A police team has been deployed at Futung.

Motive not clear yet

SP K.C. told the media the police are carrying out investigation but the motive of Shah’s murder was not clear yet. According to him, everything could be clear only when the mastermind of the incident would be nabbed.

Seal and search last night

Meanwhile, the police sealed Lazimpat area, where Shah was gunned down, and the neighbouring localities to carry out search operation for hours last night.

Suspecting thta the assailants are take safe haven in the area, police sealed Lazimpat, Ranibari and Samkhusi from 11 p.m. last night to 3 a.m. this morning. However, police could not get any breakthrough in the case.

  Journalists staged a rally in Kathmandu on Tuesday to  protest Shah's killing.
