Chhota Rajan 'ex-aide' claims responsibility
Police question Beg's killers
KATHMANDU, FEB 08 - A person on Monday called up a television channel in Kathmandu and owned up to the killing of Shah.
Posing himself as Bharat Nepali, he told Avenues Television that the caller claimed that he leads a splinter-group of Chhota Rajan gang , and Shah was murdered because he “worked against the Indian nationality.”
Nepali was a former aide of Chhota Rajan, an Indian underworld don.
Indian media had been accusing Shah of being close to Pakistani intelligence agency ISI and suspected him of having links with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. However, he always denied the accusations.
In 1998, Mirza Dilshad Beg, a former minister, was shot dead in Chabahil of Kathmandu. Rajendra Sadashiv Nikhale aka Chhota Rajan took the responsibility of the murder.
Meanwhile, police went to the central jail in the capital where five persons are serving the sentence for their involvement in Beg’s killing, and grilled them in connection with yesterday's incident.
The police have beefed up the security at all the exit points of the Kathmandu Valley.
