Aire confirms bronze medal in taekwondo
DHAKA, FEB 08 - The second day of taekwondo was not as productive as the previous day for Nepal with only one player winning a bronze medal out of three players in fray on Sunday. Dan Bahadur Aire had to settle for a bronze in the men's under 74 kg category after going down to Pakistan's Rizwan Islal 9-4 in the semifinal bout.
Aire, who had advanced to the second round defeating Bhutan's Kusng Eungadi by a narrow 4-3 points, conceded two quick three pointers in the first round to trail 6-0 at the end of the round. The Pakistan added two more three-points in second round again making a contact in the face.
Aire finally opened his scoring in the third round with a three-pointer gained for a face contact and added one more point towards the end to settle for a bronze. Aire could have made a big difference had he only managed to keep his opponent at bay in the first round. The reaming round was a close battle.
Earlier in the day, Ramesh Shrestha crashed out the first round itself after going down against India's Ananada Pandya Rajan 11-7. After trailing the first round 3-0, Shrestha got back in the game in the second round adding six points including two three-pointers against his opponents six as well.
