KATHMANDU, FEB 06 - Paramananda Jha, whose vice presidential berth is defunct, on Saturday dispatched a letter to the President’s Office along with a copy of the oath in his mother-tongue Maithili in which he intends to retake the oath of his office and office.

The Vice President is set to readminister the oath on Sunday.

According to the recently endorsed seventh amendment bill of the Interim Constitution, it is mandatory to inform the president’s office within 24 hours before taking the oath if the language is other than Nepali.

President’s Office has set the time of 3:30 pm tomorrow for the ceremony.

Jha’s authority as vice president was deactivated in August 2008 through a Supreme Court ruling that said his swearing-in in Hindi was not on a par with the Interim Constitution of the country.

Though the apex court had given him a chance to retake oath in Nepali and keep his position intact, Jha had refused to do so.
