'Country has seen many ups and downs in short span of time'
BHADRAPUR, FEB 05 - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Planning and Works, Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar has stressed that it is the responsibility of all the political parties to make a safe-landing to the country by framing the constitution in the stipulated time.
Speaking at a press conference in Bhadrapur on Friday, Gachhadar said the country has seen many political ups and downs in a short span of time during the transition.
He also expressed grave concerns over the possibility of the country getting caught up in conflict again if the constitution is not written on time.
Fielding queries by journalists regarding the change of government, the Deputy Prime Minister said talks of government change are irrelevant and meaningless. He said the incumbent government itself could be turned into a national government.
He rapped the UCPN (Maoist) for pushing to change the present government and its moves to form a government under its leadership.
Deputy Prime Minister Gachchhadar said integration of the Maoist combatants should be carried out and the cantonments vacated before the constitution is made.
He also said the division of the country into 14 federal states proposed by the State Restructuring Committee is unscientific and impractical. He said any acts of splitting the Tarai’s strength would not be acceptable at all.
Stating the separation of Chitwan as a region of the Tarai tantamount to doing injustice to the indigenous Tharus, he warned that Chitwan’s separation from Tarai would not be acceptable. He warned that the constitution cannot be written if Chitwan is not made a part of the greater Tarai region.
He also underlined the need for the formation of the state restructuring commission for carrying out works pertaining to the restructuring of the state and distribution of state power which still remains to be done.
