Prez draws attention to judicial questions over Jha's re-oath
KATHMANDU, FEB 02 - President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav on Tuesday drew the attention of the government towards some serious judicial questions that may arise over the re-oath taking of Vice President-elect Paramananda Jha.
The president drew the attention towards the judicial controversy that may surface over Jha's oath row, during the meeting with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal at Shital Niwas this morning.
He said the Presidents office is eager to activate the vice president's post. however, he suggested the prime minister to remain alert towards the problems that may crop up later.
He suggested the prime minister to be clear on Constituent Assembly regulations, provision of interim constitution, Supreme Court (SC) verdict regarding the vice president's oath, among other issues.
VP-elect Jha's post had been rendered defunct since Aug. 31 after he refused to abide by the SC verdict asking him to retake oath in Nepali or be dismissed.
On Jan 21, Chief whips of the three parties—the UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and UML— had filed the motion at the parliament with the provision to allow VP-elect Jha to take the oath of office and secrecy in his mother tongue.
The House had also endorsed the seventh amendement to the interim constitution in order to pave the way for the president, vice president and the prime minister to take the oath of office and secrecy in their mother tongue.
