Need of improvement in economy: PM

KATHMANDU, FEB 02 - Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Tuesday underscored the need of improvement of economy to remove poverty, unemployment and remoteness from the country.

He was speaking at an interaction programme on ""Nepal's Current Financial Health and its Implications on the Economy' organised by the Federation of the Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries ( FNCCI) here today.

There is a need of serious discussions on the country's economy in the political circle, he said.  

The government has given emphasis on the development of water resources, tourism, industrial sector, transportation and physical infrastructures, said Nepal, adding, the load-shedding problem could be resolved within the next five years.

"The government is very serious towards the private sector and its stakeholders", said the PM, underscoring the need to hold the discussions on the uncontrolled trade, monetary policy, investment-friendly environment, trade unions' problems and the problems seen in loan investment of the banks. The rising culture of shutdowns, strikes and chakkajam should be ended through the talks in the political circle, he said.

Speaking at the same programme, FNCCI president Kush Kumar Joshi said the nation is facing the risk of economic crisis as the government and parties failed to give priority to the country's economic agenda.

The World Bank representative Hisanobu Sisido said it was a quite challenging to manage the economic problems. He suggested for increasing the productive sector's investment, reducing trade deficit and improving monetary and economic policy.
