Lawmaker kicks cop for no salute
BHAIRAHAWA, JAN 26 - In a bizarre incident, an on-duty policeman has been kicked by a lawmaker for not being greeted, in Trilokpur of Bhairahawa on Monday.
Constituent Assembly member Om Prakash Yadav ‘Guljari’ of Rupandehi-2 assaulted police constable Prakash Gupta for not offering him ‘due respect’. Yadav, who was drinking tea at a local café near the police station along with others, felt annoyed when the junior police officer did not recognise him.
"When he started reprimanding me, I asked him who he was,” said the victim, “Then he kicked me out of the blue.” “I saved myself when he further hit me on the face.” He said he did not salute the lawmaker as he did not know him.
When locals and other passers-by objected to Yadav’s tantrum, the latter did not take time to apologise. He admitted that he made a mistake, but it was inadvertent.
“After people started sympathising me and protesting him, he said he was sorry for the incident,” said Gupta.
Meanwhile, DSP Chhabi Lal Banjade said that the police constable did not make any mistake. "We would take action against him if he was wrong.”
