Indians obstruct border to protest Nepali Maoist poster
'Poster has disdained Indian national flag'
BIRATNAGAR, JAN 26 - Saying the posters distributed by the Nepali Maoists have disdained the Indian flag, Indian nationals have obstructed the border entry point at Jogbani along the Nepal-India border from Tuesday morning.
They are staging sit-in, and are demonstrating against the UCPN (Maoist) in the Indian side from 11 this morning. Claiming that they are not supporters of any specific party, they said would continue the obstruction until Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal apologises.
Security forces have been mobilised in both sides of the border not to let the situation worsen.
The Maoists have launched various programmes along the southern plains abutting India against the encroachment of Nepali territories by the Indian side. They have published a poster displaying the encroached areas trod by footwear; Indian flag is also shown it. The footwear has been portrayed as the signal of Indian expansionism.
After the Maoists started gluing the posters along the border areas, it invited strong objection from the Indian side. The Indians said they the poster has disrespected their flag as it is trampled by the footwear, and that they cannot tolerate the disrespect.
The demonstrators today chanted acerbic slogans -- full of vulgar words – against Dahal, and burnt him in effigy.
They said accused Dahal, a former prime minister, of disturbing the harmony between India and Nepal.
As part of their fourth phase of protest, which the Maoists say is for the protection of national sovereignty, the Maoist top brass had visited several border regions and had announced that their campaign would continue until the ‘encroached’ territories were returned.
