UCPN (Maoist) puts off indefinite strike
KATHMANDU, JAN 22 -
Heeding to the call made at the High Level Political Mechanism (HLPM) meeting, the
main opposition UCPN (Maoist) on Friday decided call off its indefinite general strike programme that was announced earlier to begin from Sunday.
A meeting of the party office bearers held in the capital today decided to put off its indefinite general strike for now, Maoist Vice Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha said.
“We decided to suspend the agitation programme as the efforts are being made to forge consensus,” said Shrestha.
Earlier today, the meeting of the HLPM had asked the Maoists to withdraw its strike programmes.
