Third-batch of disqualified combatants discharged

NAWALPARASI, JAN 21 - Around 622 disqualified Maoist combatants were discharged from the fourth division cantonment at Jhyaltungdanda in Nawalparasi on Thursady.
However, only 361 combatants were evicted today amid a function organised at the fourth division as 261 others disqualified by the UN verification of the total 622 combatants had already left the cantonment.
Officials from peace ministry, UNMIN and representatives from the Maoist People's Liberation Army (PLA) bade farewell to the combatants by offering red vermillion and garlands.
PLA deputy commander Chandra Prakash Khanal 'Baldev' said that the Maoists are compelled to discharge the disqualified combatants from the camps to take the peace process to a logical end.
The first batch of 201 former child soldiers--155 minors and 46 who were recruited after the cut-off date—were discharged from the second division main cantonment site at Dudhauli on Jan. 7.
Earlier this week, the third division cantonment at Shaktikhor, Chitwan district, had discharged 222 out of 258 disqualified Maoist combatants.
