Six girls rescued from Riyadh

KATHMANDU, JAN 21 - Six Nepali women working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as domestic helpers are returning home on Friday afternoon.

The women, caught up in various troubles in the Saudi had gone to take refuge at the Nepalese embassy in Riyadh, were flown back home by the embassy.

The returnees have been identified as Dumkumari BK of Rupandehi, Butwal, Sapana Lama of Swabara, Gorkha, Sanu Lama of Hadekhola, Makawanpur, Basanti Limbu of Bhaunne, Morang, Kumari Adhikari of Kohabhari, Jhapa and Sanam Nepali of Siddharthanagar, Rupandehi.

According to Khadga Prasad Dahal, first secretary at Nepalese embassy in Riyadh, the embassy provided asylum to the women for about a month and was sent to the deportation centre for required legal procedure before flying them back home.

Earlier on Jan. 13, the Nepalese embassy had rescued some 16 women and later flown home.

Though the Nepal government has imposed ban on sending Nepalese women as domestic helpers in Saudi Arabia, manpower agencies somehow manage to smuggle them to the gulf nations.
