Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has sought explanation from Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari for her statement that her ministry and Nepal Army (NA) have no compulsion to accept any decision on army integration taken by the Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal-led Special Committee for Supervision, Integration, and Rehabilitation of Maoist combatants.
Following mounting pressure from his Cabinet, the prime minister telephoned Bhandari on Wednesday and asked why she had made such a controversial statement.
Refuting media reports, which quoted her as saying that her ministry and Nepal Army had no compulsion to accept the decision of the special committee, Bhandari told the prime minister that she did not speak in that manner.
"I did not speak like that nor did I say that I would not accept the decision of the committee. I just tried to convey that the participation of my ministry and NA should be ensured in special committee," a minister who overheard the telephonic conversation told ekantipur.com.
