Japanese envoy calls on Prime Minister
KATHMANDU, JAN 18 - Japanese ambassador to Nepal Tatsuo Mizuno Monday met Prime Minister Madhav Nepal at the latter’s office.
Emerging from the meeting, the ambassador said he handed over Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama’s letter on UNESCO Trust Fund established with Japanese support to the prime minister.
The fund will prepare a master plan for the conservation of Lord Buddha’s birthplace in Lumbini, a world heritage site, and wildlife conservation through UNESCO.
In the hour-long meeting, the ambassador also discussed Nepal’s contemporary political situation including the progress in peace process and constitution writing process, according to Mizuno.
Mizuno said he suggested the prime minister to build understanding and consensus with all political forces of the country to take the peace process to a logical end and write the constitution on time to establish lasting peace as Japan wants to see a peaceful, prosperous and developed Nepal.
Saying that Nepal has many tourism potentials and it has been preparing to mark 2011 as Nepal Tourism Year, he said he urged the prime minister to create an environment, which won’t promote activities like banda and strikes so as to draw more tourists to Nepal.
