Maoists charge NA imported arms from India
Authorities refute Maoist claim
BUTWAL, JAN 15 - The main opposition party UCPN (Maoist) Friday claimed that the Nepal Army (NA) has brought in a large quantity of arms and ammunition from India by violating the peace accord.
"According to a special source from the NA, the army has imported 30 truckoads of arms and ammunitions including INSAS and GALIL assault rifles," said Maoist central member and its Abadh State Committee sub-incharge, Bamdev Chettri.
Chettri also claimed that all the imported weapons have been kept at NA’s Butwal-based No. 22 Brigade.
Accusing the NA of breaching the peace accord repeatedly by bringing in arms, Chettri said, "There is no point in following the peace agreement by the Maoists alone. We have already informed the Joint Monitoring Coordination Committee." He further remarked that there is a '180 degree' difference between the situation when the peace accord was inked and now.

Meanwhile, Rupendehi Chief District Officer Nagendra Jha denied the Maoist claims and said the vehicles were empty.
According to Jha, the NA brought 35 trucks, 10 Tata Sumo, two ambulances, one motor crane and one water tank from India and entered Nepal via Sunauli border after going through the regular custom procedure.
Likewise, Brigade Commander of No. 22 Brigade Bijaya Bikram Khadka said the vehicles brought from the Sunauli border yesterday were empty. He said, "We have brought the truck-styled jeeps for daily use as per the headquarters’ demand."
