INARUWA, JAN 13 - Nepal’s eldest elephant at Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve has died on Wednesday. Tribhuvankali, the elephant that was brought to Nepal, in 2007 BS, died at the age of around 70 years this morning. Tribhuvankali died while grazing, according to conservation officer at the reserve Nilamber Mishra. 

India had gifted the elephant to Nepal after the establishment of democracy as a symbol of friendly ties between the two countries.

After Tribhuvankali’s death, the park now has four elephants including a baby elephant. Tribhuvankali was considered eldest among all elephants found in all national parks and reserves in the country.

Earlier in October, another female elephant called Surajkali had died in the same reserve.
