KATHMANDU, JAN 12 - A local UCPN (Maoist) leader has been gunned down in Bara on Tuesday evening.
Rajesh Mandal, a resident of Lalparsa VDC of neighbouring Parsa district, was killed when unidentifed gunmen opened fire at him at Nitanpur Chowk in Bara district.
It has been learnt that a Tarai outfit has owned the responsibility of the attack. However, the UCPN (Maoist) suspected that its cadres are being targeted because it has launched a movement for national independence and sovereignty.
Following the news of fatal attack, the Maoists took to street and
started demonstrating demanding action against the guilty.
They vandalised and set an Armed Police Force vehicle on fire.
Second attack in a week
This is a second fatal attack on the Maoist cadres in the district within seven days.
Three Maoist cadres were shot dead at Ganjabhawanipur in the district on the night of Jan. 6.
Ambika Mahato, Dara Yadav and Ramprakash Yadav were returning home after attending a dinner party when an unidentified gang attacked them.
Two Maoist leaders were injured in the incident.
