PARBAT, JAN 10 - CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said on Sunday that there is no alternative to moving forward in consensus and cooperation leaving behind all the mutual differences.

Speaking at a press conference organised by Parbat chapter of Press Chautari this morning, the UML boss said it was high time for all to work towards taking the peace process to a logical conclusion and drafting the new constitution.

One political party alone cannot draft the constitution, said he and remarked that it was necessary to be free from ultra-leftist and rightist mindset.

On the recently formed High Level Political Mechanism (HLPM), he said the mechanism would help improve the inter-party relationship and requested not to push it into controversy.

Khanal, when asked about his party’s senior leader KP Oli’s statement on HLPM answered that Oli’s statement was just a positive concern for strengthening the mechanism.

Earlier yesterday, UML leader KP Oli had said that the formation of HLPM was not discussed in the party’s standing committee. Oli had also raised questions over the scope, responsibility, and rights of the mechanism.

While saying that the intra-party differences were just normal, the UML chair accused the media of magnifying and distorting the reality. He further urged the media to ‘correct’ themselves.

The Maoists’ forceful seizure of lands does not mean land reform, Khanal said and urged the Maoists to move forward in consensus and cooperation.
