GAURIGUNJ, JHAPA, JAN 08 - Senior CPN-UML leader KP Sharma Oli said on Friday that the Maoists are not mature enough to discern a friend and a foe.

Inaugurating the first convention of UML’s Jhapa-6 committee today, Oli said his party does not consider the UCPN (Maoist) an enemy. "Though the Maoists say that we (UML) are their enemy, we consider them as our dear younger brothers and sisters," said he, "Because they are yet to become wise."

Oli, a vocal critic of Maoists, went on to say that they have gone astray, and taking them together is the major challenge of contemporary politics.

According to him, since the Maoists have not given up the politics of violence the UML is making efforts to make them walk in the right track.

Why is the HLPM formed?

Earlier today, talking to the reporters at Biratnagar Airport in Biratnagar before leaving for Jhapa, the UML leader had raised question on the working area, duty, and rights of the High Level Political Mechanism (HLPM).

He questioned the constitutional and political right of the mechanism.

“Why is the mechanism formed?” he asked, “Whether to operate the government or to run the parties?”

The top leaders of the major three parties-- UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML-- formed the HLPM under NC President Girija Prasad Koirala's leadership this morning.

Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal and UML Chair Jhalanath Khanal are its members.
