Maoists pushing nation towards conflict: Khand
DANG, JAN 05 - Irrigation Minister Balkrishna Khand said on Tuesday the UCPN (Maoist)’s anarchic activities have been pushing the country towards another conflict.
Speaking at a press meet organised by the Dang chapter of Press Union in Ghorahi, Minister Khand accused the Maoists of trying to take the country hostage by raising unnecessary issues at a time when all the political parties should have concentrated on drafting the new constitution.
Minister Khad said the Maoists has raised question mark over the Constituent Assembly (CA) by unilaterally declaring autonomous states from the streets. He added that such declaration by a party will not be acceptable.
Saying that there is no alternative to the consensus among the political parties, Minister Khad claimed that the new constitution will be drafted within May 28 deadline on the basis of consensus.
He said the CA will not be dissolved even if the new constitution could not be promulgated by May 28 and urged the Maoists to get serious over drafting it.
Saying that the Maoists have continued attacks on leaders and cadres of other parties even after joining the peace process, the minister urged the Maoists to leave anarchic activities and come for peaceful politics.
Also on the occasion, the irrigation minister said the Maoist People's Liberation Army (PLA) must be integrated as per the peace process prior to the constitution drafting.
