NC, UML to retaliate Maoists' excesses 'politically'
KATHMANDU, DEC 30 - Major two constituents of the ruling coalition—the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML on Wednesday decided to mobilise their cadres to retaliate what they have described as "Maoists' excesses" politically.
They said that they will launch political campaigning for the drafting of new constitution.
A meeting between the leaders of the two parties held at the NC parliamentary party office in Singhadurbar today took the decision to this effect.
"We decided to mobilise people in a political manner for the peace and statute drafting," said NC general secretary Bimalendra Nidhi, talking to journalists after the meeting.
UML leader Keshav Badal said the parties have decided to move ahead by giving top priority to the management of the Maoist combatants.
"We have reasoned out that the new constitution cannot be drafted as long as the Maoist fighters are not re-settled," said Badal. "So the Maoist combatants' management is the top priority."
The two ruling parties have been holding meetings to prepare a joint strategy after the Maoists announced their fourth-phase protest.
Yesterday's meeting had accused the Maoists of inviting India in Nepal's internal affairs.
Concluding that the Maoists have been agitating to foil the peace process and the statute drafting under various pretexts, the NC, UML leaders have been striving to prepare a political report.
