KATHAMANDU, DEC 29 - The seventh interim constitution amendment bill has been tabled at the legislature parliament on Tuesday
Minister for Law and Justice Prem Bahadur Singh said the bill was tabled with the intention to allow Vice President-elect Paramananda Jha to take oath in Hindi. Vice President-elect Paramananda, whose position was rendered defunct earlier after the SC vacated his oath in Hindi and directed him to re-take oath in Nepali, would be eligible to take oath in Hindi after the passage of the bill.
Minister Singh said so responding to the question raised by Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) Lawmaker JP Gupta that whether VP Jha would be allowed to take the oath of office and secrecy.
He said that once the bill is passed it would be immediately put into action and the government has expected to pave the way for VP-elect Jha to take oath in Hindi. Earlier, JP Gupta had urged the government to take back current bill as it seemed unlikely to active the defunct post of VP Jha and table another bill.
The government decided to present the statute amendment bill after the Madhes-based parties demanded that the president, vice president and the prime minister be allowed to take the oath of office and secrecy in their mother tongue.
