BARA, DEC 25 - CPN-UML cadres Thursday night captured 17 bigahs of land belonging to Shanti Singh, the elder sister of former King Gyanendra, at Auraha on Simara-6 of Bara district.

A group of cadres led by party’s regional leader Bhagwat Chaudhary and Rishi Luintel captured the land.

They have also started tilling the land and erecting bamboo huts in the land.

Janakjan Singh, who had been looking after the land for the last seven years, said the UML cadres forcefully captured the land and began erecting huts overnight.

A local Suresh Dhamala said they informed the police at around 9:00pm but the police turned back after coming to know that the gang was capturing the land.

Chaudhary said the land was lying unused and they wanted to utilize it. He said they plan to grow maize in the coming season.

Last year, Maoists had captured Singh’s seven bigahs of land and settled squatters in the land.
