Model eco-friendly building built at IOE
KATHMANDU, DEC 25 - Institute of Engineering (IOE) under the Tribhuvan University has constructed an environment-friendly building as a model.
Using traditional means and resources, the building has been built on the IOE premises with the financial assistance of the Education Department and MS Nepal.
IOE lecturer Sushil Bajrachraya said the building is designed to ensure comfortable learning for students in the Terai and Hilly regions balancing high and low temperature.
In the building, the outer air can be cooled with the help of water during summer and rooms can be warmed using solar energy in winter, he said.
Soil blocks and tiles made from soil, rod, bamboo, five percent cement and five percent sand are used to make the building, he said, adding that such blocks and tiles are cheap, strong, and better than bricks.
MS Nepal has assured that the Danish agency will help build more buildings across the country provided the building at IOE meets the expected result. The Ministry of Education has planned to construct 51,000 such buildings for various government schools.
