KATHMANDU , DEC 24 - Four Madhes-based parties on Thursday urged the other political parties to prioritise the bill regarding the language that has been tabled at the Parliament.
A meeting of the Madhesi parties held at the parliamentary office of the Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party (TMLP) in the capital today drew the attention of the government towards ending the Vice President’s oath-taking row at the earliest.
Parmananda Jha’s Vice Presidential post has been rendered defunct after he refused the Supreme Court order to retake his oath in Nepali, or be dismissed from the post.
The government has already tabled a bill regarding the language to be used while taking official oath at the Parliament. However, no discussion could be made on the bill as the main opposition Unified CPN (Maoist) continually obstructed the House until yesterday.
The Maoists, who earlier took siege of the House demanding correction of President’s move and establishment of ‘civilian supremacy’, yesterday, had decided to resume the House business.
The meeting also discussed the unity of the Madhesi parties in the Constituent Assembly, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s recent statement about holding ‘direct’ talks with New Delhi, VP Jha’s oath-taking row, among other issues.
Leaders from Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik, TMLP, Sadhbhawana, Anandidevi-led Nepal Sadhbhawana Party were present at the meeting.
