Maoists attack Tarun Dal cadres, 22 injured

GORKHA, DEC 24 - Some 22 cadres of Tarun Dal, the youth wing of Nepali Congress including party General Secretary Pushpa Parajuli have been injured when the UCPN (Maoist) cadres attacked them on Wednesday night.

The Maoist cadres attacked the microbus (Ba 1 Ja 7855) in which the Tarun Dal were riding on the way for Gorkha from the capital at Harmatari Chowk last night. The vehicle has been totally damaged.

"Maoist cadres pelted stones and vandalised the microbus, the police rescued us when they tried to torch the vehicle keeping us inside ", Parajuli said.

The team led by Parajuli was attacked at around 10 pm by a gang led by YCL leaders Chuda Khadka, Lekh Bahadur Thapa and Dopak Timalsina, according to Parajuli.

Injured 22 are undergoing treatment at the local health post. They have sustained injuries in head and face, the police informed.

The Tarun Dal team was in Gorkha to take part in a protest organised by Tarun Dal’s Gorkha committee for Thursday against the attack on Dal’s district secretary Dhruv Panta during the Maoist general strike.

The party was prerparing to stage a sit-in at the district administration office for an hour and vehicular strike today.

Meawhile, the Maoists said that they attacked the Tarun Dal cadres as they were coming to the district to create chaos.

According to the Maoists, they found domestic weapons with the cadres.
