SYANGJA, DEC 23 - The number of people living with HIV/AIDS has reached 154 in Syangja district.

Of them, 20 are children below 18 years. Sankalpa Sahayog Samuha, an organisation working in the HIV/AIDS sector, in a report last month had put the number of people suffering from HIV/AIDS at 130.

The number of HIV/AIDS infected people has increased by 24 in a gap of one month, according to the organisation.

Director of the Samuha, Laxman Khand said the number of people infected with HIV/AIDS is increasing day by day and every one in society has to contribute towards efforts at checking the spread of AIDS.

He said his organisation is in touch with 154 people with HIV/AIDS and that they are being given counseling services. Director Khand said this is not the official number of people with HIV/AIDS in the district.

Sankalpa Sahayog Samuha has been bringing together the people suffering from HIV/AIDS in the district and providing education, food and accommodation to the infected children.

The Samuha said a total of 45 people infected with HIV/AIDS are receiving ARV treatment under its assistance.
