KATHMANDU, DEC 22 - While the second day of the banda called by UCPN (Maoist) continued to hamper normal life across the country, for the organisers of the Second Blue Sky Cup Women's Volleyball League Championship, it was a blessing in disguise. The event has been collecting huge amounts in revenues since the start of the closure.

On the first day of the closure, the championship collected about Rs. 50,000 from ticket sales from about 1,000 audiences. The second day (Monday) turnout was something the organisers could only dreamt about. The day's collection amounted to Rs. 150,000 from 2,000 people.

“Normally, we have to provide free entries to almost half the crowd,” said Manbir Chhantyal, one of the members of the Dhorpatan Training Centre organising committee.

Chanttyal said the kind of turnout being witnessed had previously been possible only during the finals, never during the preliminaries. “We hardly receive any audience in normal days.”

The organisers have also been lucky not to get any threat from the bandh organisers as the meet, billed a national event, was inaugurated by Maoist central leader Post Bahadur Bogati.

Meanwhile, in the games played today, Nepal Police, PLA and Fishtail all won their respective matches. Nepal Police defeated Angel Heart Academy 25-22, 25-10, 25-19 before thrashing Deepjyoti School in straight sets 25-8, 25-20, 25-20 in their next game.

Police have 10 points with four wins from six matches. Likewise, Fishtail eased on New Diamond 25-11, 25-15, 25-15 before their second match against defending champions Gyanubaba was abandoned due to bad light and will be played on Tuesday. Both these teams have 10 points from five matches each. New Diamond went down 25-22, 25-10, 25-19 to PLA for their second loss of the day.
