Demonstration will be peaceful, says Yami
KATHMANDU, DEC 21 - UCPN (Maoist) politburo member Hisila Yami on Monday claimed that her party is committed to make the demonstration peaceful.
Accusing the government of using excessive force in yesterday’s demonstration at Naya Baneshwor, the Maoist leader claimed that her party cadres had depicted restraint.
Yami who arrived here in Naya Baneshwor to take part in the party’s ongoing three-day general strike said the party has not made plans of confrontation today though clashes ensued in yesterday’s protest programme due to the police oppression.
Naya Baneshwor area remained tense throughout the day yesterday with sporadic clashes between the police and the protesters as police tried to disperse the Maoist activists to clear the way for the Prime Minister’s arrival.
The main opposition party, which has already commenced its third-phase agitation demanding the establishment of ‘civilian supremacy’, called for a three-day general strike from yesterday.
