Chinese authorities urge return of ‘looted dollars’
KATHMANDU, DEC 21 - The Chinese authorities on Monday urged the Nepali officials to help return USD 300,000 (Rs. 22.2 million) which was robbed from Kathmandu in October.
Such request came from the Chinese authorities during a meeting between the Chinese officials and the officials at the Kodari Immigration Office today.
Chief at the Kodari Immigration Office Bijaya Poudel said that the Nepalese containers were not seized by the Chinese side but from the families of the businessmen, whose dollars were robbed in Kathmandu.
Earlier on Saturday, Chinese traders had seized 26 sealed containers with goods worth Rs. 150 million belonging to Nepalis.
The Chinese side claimed that their businessmen had not been involved in ‘dollar fraud’ and that they had only tried to take the amount to Khasa by exchanging Nepali money to dollars.
