Gamblers arrested
KATHMANDU, DEC 20 - Police, accompanied by State Minister for Tourism, Satrudhan Prasad Sinha, carried out a raid in a Capital-based casino on Friday night and arrested nine Nepali nationals on charge of gambling in a casino, which is prohibitted by law.
The Police raided the Everest Casino following orders from Sinha, who was in the area at the time. Sinha reportedly instructed Inspector General of Police, Ramesh Chand Thakuri, to carry out the raid, stating that Nepali nationals were gambling in the casino. Police personnel, could not find any Nepalis inside the casino, and made the arrests outside the building.
Addressing media persons on Saturday, Superitendent of Police, Ganesh K.C. stated that the police would put all Capital-based casinos under survellience to restrict the entrance of Nepali nationals. K.C. expressed his committment to bringing casino owners and Nepali gamblers to book if they were found to be violating regulations in days to come.
The arrested have been identified as Bal Krishna Maharjan, Mukti Maharjan, Deependra Maharjan, Hari Maharjan, Bikram Maharjan, Jeetendra Tamrakar, Rajendra Shakya, Prabesh Puri, and Minendraman Bajracharya.
