Chinese businessmen seize 26 Nepali containers

KATHMANDU, DEC 19 - Chinese businessmen on Friday evening took hold of 26 Nepali containers carrying goods worth 16 billion in Khasa bazaar, the Nepal-China border.

According to Rajendra Shrestha, Chairman of Sindhupalchowk chapter of FNCCI, the Chinese seized the custom passed containers yesterday evening.

The Chinese officials took control of the Nepali containers saying that their US dollar worth Rs 33 million was looted in coordination with the Nepali police in October in the capital and demanded the return of their lost money.

According to chairman of Nepal Truck Container Association Sang Dorje Sherpa, the Chinese side is firm on not returning the seized trucks until they get their looted money back.

The Chinese businessmen were looted at Swayambhu, Kathmandu in October and two alleged Nepal Police personnel constable Makarlal Shrestha and recruit Ramhari Subedi are in police custody.

Other alleged for the dollar loot are Sonam Lama, Lotak Lama, Daugar Lama, Chutam Lama, among others.

Though a committee under the coordination of Deputy Inspector General Rajendra Singh Bhandari was formed to investigate the incident, the committee has not made any progress.

Meanwhile, Kodari Monitoring Office had requested the Chinese men to let the containers pass but the Chinese police also turned down the request.

According to monitoring source, the Chinese police were furious of police involvement in the loot.
