Women journalists meet prez

KATHMANDU, DEC 14 - A delegation of women journalists met President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav at the latter's official residence Monday morning and apprised him of the difficulties they have been facing.

Nearly 100 women journalists from different districts who arrived here in the capital to take part in the women journalists' national were called by the President himself. During the meeting, the delegation members apprised the President of the difficulties they have been facing in course of work following the dominance of patriarchal mindset in the society.

They also called for security to women journalists and government's attention to manage and explore the possible natural resources in Nepal.

Expressing a grave concern over the murder attempt on Rukum-based journalist Tika Bista, they stressed on collective commitments from the parties to ensure the rights of freedom of expression to journalists.

In response, President Yadav said first of all, national unity was a must to save the nation. "There is a challenge in all sectors due to the post-conflict transitional phase in the country", said the President, underscoring the need of political stability and timely constitution to resolve all the existing problems.

Expressing concern over the impact of climate change on Chure area and mountains, the President said Chure area would be changed into a desert land if they were not protected on time.

During the function, President Yadav said he is serious towards the problems facing by the women journalists.
