KATHMANDU, DEC 14 - Two shops in the Mahabouddha area caught fire on Saturday afternoon, leading to property worth at least Rs. 2.5 million being damaged in the fire.

The fire at R.K. Impex, a textile shop owned by Rajesh Shrestha, and a mobile phone shop owned by Bishwa Shrestha, started because of an electric short circuit while wiring the windows. Nila Raj Gachha Magar, acting fire chief of Juddha fire Brigade, said that the fire Brigade reached the scene immediately after the fire had started, and put out the fire within 45 minutes with the help of the police and locals. He added that the fire could not spread easily because of the concrete materials the building was constructed with, and the damage had been minimised.

The fire gutted property worth at least Rs. 2 million at the clothes shop, and at least Rs. 500,000 at the mobile phone shop.

No one was injured in the incident.
