PARSA, DEC 13 - Kush Kumar Joshi, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) on Saturday said business community will place a request to the government to issue licensed weapon to them to defend when necessary.

"Now businessmen can no longer rely on the government security assurances," said Joshi while addressing a meeting organised by Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The meeting focused on the increasing attacks on entrepreneurs and the ongoing UCPN (Maoist) strike in Birgunj-Pathlayia corridor.

"The community has to brace itself for any untoward incident or security threats."

Joshi also said that they will defy all the bandas and strikes called by any party or group in the future.

FNCCI's central working committee emergency meeting on Sunday in Kathmandu would take a strong decision in this regard, said Joshi.

"It's unfair to call for a strike in the Birgunj-Pathliyia corridor over the issue of three health workers' of National Medical College," said Joshi.

The FNCCI president lauded the College for sidelining the Maoist cadre and taking over its management into its own hands. Joshi also called on the agitating Maoists to withdraw their strike.

Accusing Nepal Telecom and Mero Mobile of not supporting businessmen to help trace the mobile numbers of criminals Joshi said, "We will make special efforts and coordinate with the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Information and Communication in this regard."
