Khanal criticises Maoists
GORKHA, DEC 11 - UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal once again flayed the Maoists. Speaking at the inaugural of the district convention of his party in Gorkha on Friday, he, who is believed to be a Maoist sympathiser within his party, accused the UCPN (Maoist) of working against the civilian supremacy.
Saying civilian supremacy can be established in the country only by promulgating the new constitution on time, he further opined that their anarchic activities have stymied it. According to him, the Maoists are acting against the constitution and people notwithstanding their lip service by imposing strikes and protest programmes.
Civilian supremacy has been a buzz word after the Maoists stepped down from the government in May earlier this year over the army chief row. The president reinstated the then army chief sacked by the Maoist-led government. Since then the Maoists have taken to the streets, for the ‘reestablishment of the civilian supremacy’ --claiming the president’s move was undemocratic and an instance of military dominance.
Stating that the civilian supremacy cannot be gained by obstructing the parliament, he urged the Maoists to come to an understanding.
He further said that there is no alternative to the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led coalition
