PARSA, DEC 04 - Senior leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba Friday charged that the Maoists agenda of declaring autonomous states is meant to derail the peace and constitution drafting processes.

Leader Deuba said so while speaking at a programme in Birgunj today.

"Maoists should not declare autonomous states going outside the scope of the Constituent Assembly (CA), said the former prime minister," Maoists autonomy agenda is against the spirit of interim constitution."

He said that the CA will decide the number of federal states in the nation.

Accusing the Maoists of instigating violence, Deuba said that the Maoists have been agitating for regaining power.

In another context, leader Deuba said that the party had to face defeat in the CA elections as the party activists had not been united in the local level despite the unification of then NC and NC (democratic).

He also urged the party cadres to become united at the local level.
