Pact on local govt reform
KATHMANDU, DEC 03 - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed two memoranda of understanding for administrative arrangements to support the reform efforts of the government of Nepal in local level governance.
With a total of US$ 381,000 from the ADB, the two instruments focus on expanding the outreach of the UNDP's ongoing Public Private Partnership (PPP) for Urban Environment (PPPUE) Programme to four municipalities, Birgunj, Butwal, Dharan and Dhangadhi; and initiating new methods of supporting service delivery for marginalized groups, said a press statement of the UNDP.
The additional funds for increasing the role of the private sector in selected municipalities will allow UNDP/PPPUE to support them to increase their own-source revenues and provide services more effectively and efficiently.
