Constitutional Council meeting rescheduled
KATHMANDU, DEC 02 - The Constitutional Council (CC) meeting scheduled for Wednesday morning has been put off after the main opposition party UCPN (Maoist) Chairman, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala could not turn up for the meeting at the Prime Minister's office in Singhadurbar.
As per the constitutional provision, the CC meeting must include the prime minister, leader from the opposition party, Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman and three leaders named by the PM.
The CC is yet to recommend the names to head other constitutional bodies including Public Service Commission, Election Commission, Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and Office of the Auditor General.
The meeting has been rescheduled for Sunday.
Earlier on Monday, the CC meeting had unanimously recommended Senor Justice Anup Raj Sharma for the post of Chief Justice despite Maoist Chairman Dahal’s absence.
