UDAYAPUR, NOV 30 - Unified CPN (Maoist) leader CP Gajurel Monday said that the party had declared its third phase of protests as an alternative to those who are trying hard to prevent the timely promulgation of the new constitution.

Speaking at a press meet organised in the district this morning, the Maoist leader said the party's protest is legitimate.

Gajurel charged that some Nepali Congress (NC) leaders have wished for dissolution of the CA fearing that the new constitution would be drafted as desired by the Maoists.

He said the Maoist agitation was aimed at saving the Constituent Assembly (CA) from disbanding and taking the peace process to a logical end.

"We will prevent the dissolution of the CA through our agitation," said Gajurel, adding that the new constitution will be drafted within the stipulated time at any cost.

He said that his party is all set to declare autonomous states as the concept of federalism is gradually vanishing.

“We felt the need to declare autonomous states for protection of the rights of various ethnic groups and marganilised groups accomplished through battle,” said the Maoist leader. He, however, said the border of the autonomous states has been demarcated.

When asked if the Maoist launched the agitated to join government, he said his party has been agitating for power.
