KATHMANDU, NOV 20 - The five-month long “Surya Nepal NGA Youth Golf Coaching Programme” that concluded on Thursday has chosen Dinesh Prajapati, Sanjeev K.C. and Sonam Lama as three outstanding golfers.

Dinesh and Sanjeev, who are based at Royal Nepal Golf Course and Himalayan Golf Course, Pokhara respectively have qualified to play in any professional golf tournament organised by Surya Nepal. Both the players are 19 years of age.

Likewise, Sonam Lama (Royal Nepal Golf Course), 10, who stood out among the six participants in the girl's section, will be given an opportunity to compete at the Pro-Am sections of the Surya Golf Tour. Besides the platform the three also have been awarded a golf set each.

The chosen ones came through a tough competition featuring 194 participants between 9 to 21 in the first stage. They were cut down to 42 in the second stage before 27 were chosen in the third stage.  The 27 participants went through a “Camp of Excellence", from which the final three were picked. The trio were then given a five-day coaching by Nepali professional golfers.

This is the first initiative to produce quality golfers in Nepal. “We hope to give continuity to this programme in the coming years,” said Tashi Ghale, General Secretary of the Royal Nepal Golf Course.
