Maoists hold off House biz

KATHMANDU, NOV 19 - The legislative session of the Constituent Assembly (CA) failed to move ahead on Thursday after the UCPN (Maoists) lawmakers picketed the rostrum chanting slogans as usual.

As soon as the parliamentary session began today, Maoists lawmakers surrounded the rostrum and began to clamour for ‘civilian supremacy’ and against ‘President’s unconstitutional move’ in a routine way. Speaker Subash Chandra Nemwang announced the postponement of House session following the Maoist display.

The next House session is scheduled for coming Sunday.

Parliamentary business has ground to a halt for the past few months after the fall of Maoist-led government on May 4 over the sacking of the then army chief.
