Mahela's double ton roasts India

Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardene celebrates after scoring double century against India in the opening test in Ahmedabad.

A spectacular double hundred by Mahela Jayawardene and an inspiring unbeaten 84 by Prasanna Jayawardene helped Sri Lanka to a 165 run lead against India on day three of the opening Test.

Mahela Jayawardene brought up a classy double hundred as Sri Lanka continued to push India back against the wall on day three.

Sri Lanka have stretched their lead over 100 and both Jayawardenes are looking good in the middle. While Mahlea is on his way to a double hundred, Prasanna is closing in on his second Test ton.

Prasanna Jayawardene has brought up his fifty and the Indian bowling is looking more listless with every passing over. MS Dhoni needs to think and act fast.

The elegant right-handed middle order batsman went past the 150 run mark to put his team in a commanding position.

Sri Lanka have taken a lead over India in the first innings and look strong to build up on it with Mahela Jayawardene in control.

Mahela Jayawardene struck his 27th hundred as Sri Lanka turned the heat on India on the third day of the opening Test.

Harbhajan Singh struck at the stroke of lunch to remove Angelo Matthews.

Ishant Sharma struck as Yuvraj Singh plucked out a sensational catch to send back Thilan Samaraweera, who had started to grind the Indian attack.

Samaraweera continued his good run in Tests, bringing up his maiden Test fifty on Indian soil.

Dilshan smashed 112 at the top of the innings and featured in solid partnerships with fellow opener Tharanga Paranavitana (35) and captain Kumar Sangakkara (31) as Sri Lanka completed a day of dominance.
