PALPA, Nov 18 - Protesting the Tribhuwan University's (TU) decision to hike tuition fees, four student unions on Wednesday have staged demonstration and called for a transportation strike in the district.

The agitating students affiliated to Nepal Students Union (NSU), All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), ANNFSU (6th), and All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) halted transportation services for one hour this morning and warned of stern stir if the decision was not revoked immediately.

The agitating students had placed stones and benches to obstruct the vehicular movement and blocked the Tansen-Tamghas road section in front of Tribhuwan Multiple Campus for one hour.

Addressing the protest rally, NSU central member Himaldutta Shrestha said that TU officials have been entrapped in the net of ‘educational Mafias’. “The TU office bearers hiked the tuition fee at the time of admission as part of their conspiracy to provoke the students to resort to strike in order to prove that TU is a place for politics," said Shrestha.

Likewise, ANNFSU (R) central member Balu Gaire said that it was not reasonable to hike 1200 percent fee at the university of poor students.

Free Students Union secretary Arun Aryal said that the TU officials often take such decisions at the time of admissions and provoke students so as to give an impression that the students of TU knows only politics.

TU had made public its new fee structure after 18 years only yesterday. The new fee structure is 10 times more.
